Our Special Events Lead is stepping down after this year and we’re looking for someone to take this on, or a few people to take on individual events. Sign up with a neighbour or friend. Co-Chairs or Co-Event Leads work well too! There are detailed notes and instructions to follow, so there’s no need to start from scratch. Just bring your own energy and ideas.

2025 Community Cleanup
The Discovery Ridge Community Association, alongside the Signal Hill and Springbank Hill communities, are planning a community cleanup day where we will have multiple city garbage trucks in a parking lot to assist you in removing some unwanted items from your home. Think of things like old electronics, tires, wood, mattresses, chairs, beds, landscaping, etc.
The City will provide trucks to collect garbage going to the landfill. Other recycling vendors include: metal, electronics, tires, and household donations. The Drop-In Centre is accepting any furniture.
Unfortunately, we cannot accept organics, chemicals, contaminated materials, or hazardous items. Household hazardous waste can be dropped off at the Lincoln Park/Garrison Green Fire Station #20 at 2800 Peacekeepers Way SW.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with the event. Please contact volunteer@discoveryridge.com if you are interested in helping out.

Food Truck Recommendations Needed
We’re currently planning two DRCA events for this year — Stampede RoundUp and Music in the Park. We’re looking for food truck groups in Calgary. In the past we’ve used YYC Food Trucks, but we might change things up this year. We know of Community Food Trucks, but are there other food truck groups you would recommend? Summer Farm Stand
We have exciting news. A farm stand is coming to Discovery Ridge this summer!
The DRCA submitted an application for the City of Calgary Farm Stand program, and we are very excited to announce that we were successful in being paired with a wonderful farm stand partner for this summer!
Each Saturday, starting late spring (date to be confirmed), Jo, Pete, and their team from Shirley’s Greenhouse will be setting up a farm stand in the parking lot at our Recreation Facility from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. We are very lucky to have them partner with us! They are local and grow only top-quality products using non-GMO seeds and never any pesticides or herbicides. In fact, the owners say their kids are welcome to eat directly from the vines! Their best seller is their grape tomatoes, which we are told “taste like candy!” To learn more, see the Shirley’s Greenhouse website.

General Notes:
Any member in good standing shall be entitled to one vote, in person or by proxy, at any General, Special, or Annual Meeting of the Association.
All DRCA Executives and Directors must be current DRCA members.
Election of the Executive and Directors:
- Nominations should be emailed to: secretary@discoveryridge.com. Only current members are eligible to nominate someone. Each member can only nominate one person for one position in a fiscal year.
- The Board of Directors, or Board, shall mean the Board of Directors of the Association. The Executive Committee of the Board shall be defined as the President, any number of Vice-Presidents, the Past President (if any), the Secretary and the Treasurer.
- All members of the Executive Committee and other directors who frequently handle funds of the Association shall have a Police Check (or Security Clearance) completed once every three years within one month of the Annual Meeting. All costs for the police check will be covered by the Association.
- The Executive Committee positions (other than the Past President) shall be elected or confirmed by a simple majority vote of members present at the Annual Meeting.
- There shall be a minimum of six members and a maximum of twenty members elected to the Board of Directors annually including the Executive Committee positions. A member may stand for election to only one Executive position per year, but may also concurrently stand for election as a Director should they fail in their bid for an Executive position. If there are more nominees than available Director positions, then a simple plurality of votes is sufficient to win.
