Discovery Ridge Earth Day Litter Pick Up – NEW DATE

Discovery Ridge Earth Day/Litter Pick Up – NEW DATE
Saturday MAY 8 – 9am – 12pm

We need your help getting our beautiful community looking its finest again as we head into summer!

Families and residents alike are invited to the Annual Discovery Ridge Earth Day Litter Pick-Up on Saturday May 8, 9:00am – 12:00pm.
Participants of all ages are welcome but children should be accompanied by an adult. All involved should aim to commit approximately two hours to walk sections of Discovery Ridge. Garbage bags, pick-up sticks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided and will be distributed the day of the event at the Skate Shack from 9:00-10:30am.

Various areas around Discovery Ridge will be divided out among participants and maps will be available via email ahead of April 24th. Please note – this is not a group event. Each volunteer will pick up garbage bags, sticks and gloves in a socially distanced, safe manner and will then work on their own in a designated area; people from the same household can of course do the the litter pick up together. Make it a family effort!   Please email environment@discoveryridge.com for more information and to register your intent to participate.

Thank you and please remember to dress appropriately for the weather….it is Calgary after all!

Clearwater Legacy Park Disappointment

Committed Clearwater Legacy Park – Promises to Discovery Ridge Broken

For many years we have patiently awaited the development of Clearwater Park to assist in taking some of the pressure off of Griffith Woods. Please click on the link below to read the recent Calgary Herald article about the commitments and promises to us that have now been broken.
https://calgaryherald.com/news/local-news/vision-of-signature-city-park-four-decades-in-the-making-reduced-to-storm-pond

After reading, if you have concerns please consider emailing our Ward 6 Councillor, Jeff Davison, at ward06@calgary.ca so he hears your views first hand. We are asking that City Council, via Councillor Davison, direct the Parks Department to re-start planning and complete Clearwater Enmax Legacy Park by 2023 – which is 20 years since it was first promised.

Missing Pathway Connections
In addition to Clearwater Legacy Park, we have been advocating to have the the City of Calgary complete the “Missing Link” of pathway connectivity. Our collective request is to have the City build a multi-use trail from Westhills Way to 69th Street (Discovery Ridge), on the south side of Highway 8 THIS SUMMER so we are no longer disconnected. We encourage you to include your support of connecting Discovery Ridge to other pathway systems in our city by emailing Councillor Davison.
