The three-member DRCA Planning Committee met with City representatives on May 3rd to discuss completing the short “missing link” pathway between Discovery Ridge and Westhills Way SW. This would allow our residents to access Glenmore Park and the City’s pathway network in future and connect with the proposed Taza development trail network. It would also complete the current dead-end Rotary Mattamy Trail by the Beaver Ponds.
We also discussed the need for the City to redesign and restore the former parkland around the Elbow Valley Constructed Wetland. Some will remember this area included interpretive displays, seating, and even a gazebo all built by volunteer organizations including the DRCA. Part of this area was sold by the City to Alberta Transportation and the rest demolished. One suggested working title is Reconciliation Park, but we’re open to suggestions.
If DRCA members are interested in assisting or would like a copy of the Missing Link Context Plan, they can contact volunteer Board Member, Doug, at email@example.com or attend the next DRCA meeting. We could use help to make both of the above improvements happen – no planning experience necessary!
